Thomas Bertrand, originally from France, and his wife Erico, a Kyoto native, started the Bento&co online shop from a tiny house in Kyoto in November 2008. Starting small with help from friends and a stock of 30,000 yen (about 300 USD) in their living room, the Bento&co story began.
In March 2012, Bento&co moved their operations to the heart of downtown Kyoto and with it they opened a beautiful brick and mortar flagship boutique.
The first Bento&co packages were lovingly wrapped by friends one by one on a small coffee table. While over time the company has grown to become Japan’s premier specialty bento box retailer, the mission of staying true to a love of quality Japanese products and great customer service has remained the same since the founding of Bento&co.
Bento&co now employs a diverse team based in Kyoto that works passionately to bring Japanese culture closer to you. Since 2008, we've dispatched parcels to more than 97 countries. Most of our customers are located in France, USA, Canada, Australia and Japan.
Aside from our websites in French, English and Japanese, Bento&co offers a wide selection of products to resellers, hotels and restaurants in 25 countries.
Thanks to years of experience handling parcels, we've also launched a new shipping service to help businesses and make international shipping easier: Ship&co. Our latest exciting adventure!
